The Simple Things #2

Hello my dear readers...just stopping by to share a pic I'm linking up to my latest favorite site, The Simple Things.  As I mentioned in this post, Carly Robertson, is hosting a photo challenge every Friday.  She gives a theme and readers are encouraged to link a photo that relates to that theme.  I check every week and I've loved every theme so far but have been unable to participate every week.  This week I decided that I wasn't going to wait until I had my camera with me and just snapped a picture with my phone.  

The theme this week is Everyday.  Meaning, snap a picture that reflects your everyday.  Well, my photo is just that...everyday, I go in to work and in less that 5 minutes my desk is a mess.  It's re-registration time at the school where I work as well as time to complete applications for scholarships so I'm bombarded with paperwork. The pile seems endless.  By 12pm, I'm dreaming of being at home...so I can do laundry or craft or just spend time with my dogs....crazy I know! Most people want to run from their laundry...but I'll gladly take laundry duty over deadlines!!  

Well, this is all for now...can't wait to see what Carly's theme will be tomorrow!! It's just a great way for me to get to know my camera....and do something else I enjoy, photography....

The Simple Things

Ok, just as I mentioned yesterday....here's a picture taken at night...

I'm linking up to a new blog, The Simple Things, for a challenge called Photo Friday Challenge.  There's a new photo challenge every Friday...easy right?!

Back to the pic...it's a night time shot of the airport. I took it as I left the airport after dropping off my son for his trip to Belize....The original picture is in color but I didn't like the way it looked so I changed it using iPhoto.

The owner of the blog is Carly and she has a ton of great things...everything from remodeling, renovations, crafting and even photography which I love!! I think I found her through Pinterest...I sure love that site and spend way too much time on it...anyway, if you're into photography or are just a beginner like me, go check her out here.

My failed project!

A few weeks ago, I got together with my family to celebrate Three Kings Day.  Since my budget was looking rather dismissal, I decided that some homemade gifts were in order.  After perusing Pinterest (can't get enough of that site) I decided that I would try my hand with some photos on canvas.  I looked up several websites and read instructions and it seemed simple enough.

Boy was I wrong....my project did not turn out like I had hoped nor how it looked on all the sites I had checked out.

I printed my picture on tissue paper, using an inkjet printer

then I proceeded to get the canvas ready.  I used some decoupage glue that I had on hand

Once the canvas was completely covered, I set the tissue paper down on it

I spread it out carefully, trying to avoid air bubbles but it wasn't easy.   The canvas I was working with measured 3x3, a small size which I felt was perfect for this project since it was my first time doing it.  I could tell right away that the project was not going to work but I continued with it anyway.

As I watched it dry, I noticed the ink smearing on the bottom of the picture.  Later, I also noticed that the area around the eyes looked funny

I think my error was not waiting until the ink on the tissue paper was completely dry before I started gluing it down.  I should've let the ink settle and dry into the paper.....

I didn't even bother being neat with the sides since I was planning on wrapping some ribbon around it

I will try this project again soon and I'll let you all know how it works.  Right now I'm working on my winter bulletin board. When it's all completed, I'll post some pictures.

So many things, not enough time!!

Hello my crafty readers, hope everyone is doing well. Just stopping by to say hi. I've been super busy at work,  wrapping things up before my vacay kicks in at the end of this week, a death in the family and trying to make the summer enjoyable for my kids.  One thing for sure, my Cricut has been busy.  I put a quick collage together for my beautiful 92 year old aunt that passed away and used my Cricut. Nothing too elaborate but it looked nice.  Imagine my surprise, when at the viewing I was approached by a distant cousin who I probably haven't seen since our last family funeral (seems the family only gets together at sad times), anyway, my cousin asked how I cut the words on the collage? I said, I have this machine that cuts, and she asked, "Is it a Cricut?", I said yes and we laughed and laughed.  Anyway, we exchanged numbers and plan on getting together sometime before the summer is over to craft.  An old friend also found me on the Cricut messageboard.  She's a dear friend and we usually send out an email about once a year.  She lives down south and we don't get together.  I was completely surprised to find out she was into crafting, don't know if she has a Cricut or not but hopefully we'll talk soon.

Anyway, I haven't been crafting at all even though there have been a few challenges I wanted to join.  Many ideas spinning in my head and I'm hoping to get some crafting done soon.  For now, I leave  you with this picture I took in the city yesterday, while strolling with my son, hubby and grandson.

This is the Sketch setting.  I think it's my favorite setting.

This is the macro setting. I really enjoyed photographing the beautiful flowers they had.  

We visited the High Line and had a great time.  I made it a "photo day".  I have a new camera that my family gave me for Mother's day and I'm trying to learn how to use it.  I love photography and would love to take some classes....maybe sometime soon.
