Happy Retirement

Hello everyone...hope you are all preparing for the long holiday weekend.  I sure am looking forward to having Friday and Monday off from work...yay me!!

Now onto my post, while blog surfing I came across Challenge #15 at Celebrate the Occasion .  The challenge theme this week is "Retirement".  I opened up the first handbook I found, which turned out to be Wrap It Up, flipped the pages and decided on the car on pg.42.

All the cuts where made at 3.75.  

I cut the main image twice and used glue dots in between the layers to pop it up. 

On the top I wrapped a Martha Stewart ribbon that I bought at Michaels about 2 months ago for $1.  I also added a tag, cut from the same cart, at 1.50. The sentiment is hand written because I didn't have any stamps with the word 'retirement' on them.  I don't have a big stash of stamps, just a handful from various companies.

I also added a little bit of bling to liven things up and some white stitching here and there with my Signo pen.

On the inside I put a blank piece of ivory cardstock and attached two wheels cut at 2.25 to opposite corners.  I was tempted to write another sentiment but changed my mind.  After all, this card along with the others will be mailed to our Troops overseas and I want them to be able to use it for his/her own purpose.

I really enjoyed making this card.  I think I could get addicted to participating in challenges.  I'm definitely looking forward to more challenges.

Challenge Me Monday #61

Hello my dears!! I'm so proud of myself today ~ I usually check Fantabulous Cricut for their Monday challenges and always promise myself that I'm going to make time to participate in the challenge.  Then without a doubt, the time whizzes by and before you know it, it's too late to join. Well this time, I actually came home and got right down to it.  The challenge this week is to use the color blue and a cloud.  I figure since I'm on a card marathon, I would use the challenge guidelines to make a card to send to our troops~ one that he/she can use it to send home to a family member.

I made a card which measures 4.5 x 6.  Kraft cardstock from Michael's Recollection collection.  I distressed the edges with a Tim Holtz distressing tool which I bought in Virginia last month and then inked them with memento ink.  The clouds were cut from Create a Critter and embossed using the Cuttlebug and my favorite embossing folder - Swiss Dots.  They are also popped with glue dots. The blue in the card is a dog from the preloaded E2 cart - Cricut Decals.  He measures about 3.50 (I forgot to write down the size), again paper is from Michael's Recollection.  The green grass is also from Create a Critter.

I also decided to put something inside the card. So I cut a piece of white cardstock, adhered it with my 2 way zig glue and attached a piece of grass also cut from the Create a Critter. 

I wrote the following sentiment: "So blue" on the front cover and "without you" in the inside.  It doesn't show up too well but I hope you can get an idea of what it looks like.

Finally!!

I finally completed my first entire card from "just a note" cart.  I'm not sure I put it together the way it was meant to be but I managed to finish and I'm somewhat happy with the way it turned out.  There's definitely room for improvement but at least I got one done.  The card marathon continues....I have until May 30th to finish everything and then on the 31st my son will deliver all the cards to the Veteran's Hospital.

More on my new E2

Below are some pics of my new E2:

This label was on the outside of the box.  Basically, it's just letting me know that the digital display for the Cricut Decals was incorrect.  I honestly didn't check this fact when I turned on the machine. I just scrolled through all the cartridges loaded.

 After calibrating, which was super easy, only took seconds...

Once I hooked it up to the computer, this is the what the E2 screen looked like as it was updating

 My handy dandy handbooks. I received all four and enjoyed looking at all of them...

and this is my very first cut from Cricut Essentials.  I used DCWV sticker backed cardstock, the display on the machine read -medium paper and blade depth of 6.  The number facing me on the blade housing indicated 4 not sure if this matters or not.  The machine cut beautifully and quickly.

So far, I have no complains.  I will admit that I'm having a hard time figuring out where I plug in the gypsy.  There are two options on the back one for the electrical outlet and the other to connect the USB to the computer.  I did post on the cricut MB and hopefully will be able to figure it out by this evening. 

I'm glad my E2 arrived so quickly because I have an enormous amount of things to get ready. I'm doing party favors for a communion and a graduation party.

Aside from party favors, I'm getting cards ready that will be sent to our wonderful service men and women.  It's a community project my son is working on. As part of his project he is collecting thank you cards and blank cards that our service men and women can use for their own purposes. I'm hoping to cut out all the cards on the 'Just a Note' cartridge.  Needless to say, May will be a very busy month for me. Wish me luck!!

My new beautiful Cricut E2 is here. I can't believe how quickly it arrived. I calibrated it as instructed. I'm hoping to play with it later. I'm so excited.

Yay me! I took the plunge and bought the new E2!! I love the new touchscreen and the LED light. Should be here before the 15th of May. I told my family it was their Mother's Day gift to me. They think I need a 12 step program to deal with my cricut obsession. LOL. Oh, I just can't wait!!
